| Did you know
that U.S. taxpayers spend nearly one hundred billion dollars every
year just on housing criminals? With all the repeat offenders that
grace our cells it would only make sense that a good portion of our
prison costs go to rehabilitating criminals and teaching them to be
productive members of our society. Surprisingly, not even 1% of the
money Americans spend on prisons goes to rehabilitation.
Repeat offenders make up the majority
of our prison population. 78.8% of motor vehicle thieves return
to their cells. 77.4% of property thieves are rearrested and 2.5%
of rapists are arrested for the same crime within three years of
being released back into the population states the U.S. Bureau of
Justice Statistics Website. With so little reform and so many repeat
offenders the question arises, why isn’t something being done
about it?
Good news, something is being done.
Car Angel is leading the fight to distribute books into our prisons
that inspire changes in the hearts of those who read them. Instead
of telling criminals what society tells them, that they are worthless,
our books tell them that they have value and encourage them to discover
how they can become productive members of society.
Our books save taxpayers an estimated
160,000,000 a year from prisoners who were changed by reading our
books and have not returned to their former lives.
Below is an excerpt from Death Sentence,
one of the many books that have been released into the prison populous.
See for yourself why our books inspire so many changes.
